Ever since I’ve moved to Melbourne I’ve learned Aussies love two things: good food and good coffee. In recent times I have really fallen in love with the bustling cafe culture in Melbourne and its surrounding suburbs have to offer. And one of those places is Leroy’s Cafe in Newport. (Full disclosure: I visited the cafe as part of a collaboration, but the review is 100% honest and genuine.)
Leroy’s Cafe is located in the western suburb of Newport and takes about 15-20 minutes via metro.
First impressions
The cafe has got a warm, laidback vibe to it which makes it an ideal spot for a meal out with family and/or friends. The staff is genuinely welcoming and guided us to a table which had sunshine (amid the usual gloom of Melbourne autumn). The cafe offers both indoor and outdoor seating, so take your pick.
Leroy’s Cafe review
The cafe’s menu has a wide array of offerings, ranging from all-day breakfasts to hearty lunch options. For our visit, we started by ordering an iced coffee with ice cream and a chocolate malt shake. The coffee, was as good a it could have possibly been. Served with a shot of espresso, I loved DIY-ing it myself and it made for a wonderful video:
For the actual meal, I ordered the OMG Pancakes while my partner had the LFC (Leroy’s Fried Chicken) Burger. First look: the OMG Pancakes truly live up to their name and are a work of art! The dish honestly looked so pretty that I didn’t want to touch it and keep admiring it. These ricotta chocolate and cinnamon pancakes come with salted caramel popcorn, fairy floss, honey, whipped chocolate ricotta, free dried fruit and Biscoff Oreo crumb. The dish looks overly sweet but in reality it isn’t as the pancakes are plain and the fairy floss is like biting air. The salted popcorn provides a nice cut to the sweeter elements and the dish works together amazingly.
My partner’s burger looked amazing and he seemed to thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Given he is a picky eater, it would be safe to assume that the LFC Burger at Leroy’s Cafe is worth trying. I can definitely attest to the quality of the fries which are certainly among the best I’ve had in Melbourne to date.
And finally for dessert, we ordered off the day’s special menu which was curated for Mother’s Day, and sampled the chocolate mousse. Served with fresh strawberries and dark chocolate, this was the perfect end to a delicious meal, though I do think it could have done with a comparatively mild chocolate instead.
Leroy’s Cafe overall rating: 4/5
Would recommend: 5/5
