Google Pixel 4: Review including Price, Specifications

google pixel 4

Google’s Pixel series is known for making its name shine amongst the other mobile companies like Apple, Sony, Samsung and many more. It is appreciated for its camera capacity and features.

Google spends its time working on the software and creating a better interface for the user and with each Pixel launch, provides the customers with better hardware i.e camera, looks and structure. The company finds various ways to bond with its customers.

However, the Google Pixel 4 can be said to have cutting edge features in terms of hardware but there is still a lot that can be done in terms of software. The Google Pixel 4 was launched in India In October 2019. Here are the specifications of the latest launch by Google.

The change in the body of the new Pixel 4 is the metal and glass coating that makes it look tactical. The colors available are White, Matte Black and Oh So Orange. The body of the Google Pixel 4 is protected with an aluminum frame for better durability and can wit stand falls with the help of the latest
gorilla glass.

With IP68 the phone is water resistant up to 1.5m for 30 minutes.

Further, Google has ditched the latest idea of having a notch unlike the
previous series nor does it have a pop-up camera but instead the Pixel 4 has a forehead. The forehead contains a front camera, speaker and various sensors.

Each detail can be observed in 90Hz and smoother transition is observed. It can be altered from the range of 60 to 90Hz. Google has put the latest OLED technology in the touch screen of the Pixel 4. PLATFORM
OS Android 10
Chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 855

Google Pixel is known more for its android system as all the latest versions and updates are available in Pixel phone which gives the user the upper hand of getting their hands on the latest software and using it before others. The Pixel 4 comes with latest Android 10 and the new features in it. Some of the new features are radar, continued conversation with Google Assistant and Recorder.

The Radar system in the phone uses special awareness for an enhanced experience. If you go to pick the phone with the help of the radar, it activates the face lock for scanning/unlocking. This system can be used with the help of gestures. Or, if you are on Spotify you can simply change the track by moving your hand over the forehand.

MEMORY
Card slot No
Internal 64GB/128BGB, 6GB RAM

There is no external card slot so the memory cannot be expanded. The memory provided is 64GB or 128GB. There should have been a memory slot for 64GB phone because in this era of heavy android applications, memory plays a major role. Limited storage also limits the number of application installed.

Unlike the previous models, the Google Pixel 4 is not provided with unlimited storage but only provides storage for high quality video (4k) for 2 years. The previous model were given unlimited storage with 3 years validity.

CAMERA
Dual: 12.2MP, f/1.7, dual pixel PDAF, 16MP, f/2.4, PDAF
Video: 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, 1080p@30fps
Features: Dual-LED flash, Auto HDR
Front: 8MP, f/2.0

Google is known world-wide for its camera quality. There is a dual-camera in the Pixel 4 which can be seen as a minor drawback as in competition, triple camera has already launched in the market. There is no wide angle feature but the Google Pixel 4 more than makes up for in its other features.

The photos are more rich and with the help of HDR it is more detailed. Your shots can be composed live while you are taking the snap. Earlier, your photo used to be processed by the hybrid system and then later be shown to you but now you can see it live. Changes such as removal of shadow for the photo can be done while taking the snap.

Also, some major improvements have been made in night time photography too. Good shots can be captured even in the dimmest of light- this is one the specialty of this latest Pixel phone. Astro-photography can be taken on the Pixel 4. It is recommended to use a tripod or mount the phone for a better picture.

It seems that Google has only focused on the photography and not videography. The video can be recorded in 4K in 30fps and front camera 1080p in 30fps that is less as compared to the videography provided by the latest phones.

COMMS
Loudspeaker: Stereo speakers
3.5mm jack: No
WLAN: WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, DLNA, Hotspot
Bluetooth: 5.0
GPS: Yes
NFC: Yes
Radio: No
USB: 3.1, Type-C

There is no 3.5mm jack so people who love to hear songs will have to purchase Bluetooth earphones/headphones separately. Removing the 3.5mm jack to make the phone slimmer can be good deal but it can cost you some customers. The phone is up to date with the latest WiFi and Bluetooth for data transactions and radio has been removed.

FEATURES
Sensor Face ID, accelerometer, compass, radar

The Google Pixel 4 has removed finger print scanner and is solely dependent on face ID for security purposes. There is a lot of advancement in Face ID sensor. It uses the phone’s brightness in the dark for facial recognition. The phone automatically increases the brightness. Google claims its face ID to be the best security and it has stood up to the expectations.

The Radar is a useful sensor but still is in its development stage. The gestures are more like a hit or miss sometimes. But I am hoping it will get accurate by the next update. The radar system can be used for the following to ease your day-to-day work:

  • Go to the next page of the document.
  • Skip the song.
  • Reject call.
  • Snooze alarm.

BATTERY
Charging Li-Po 2800 mAh battery
Fast charging: 18W
QI wireless charging

The biggest flaw is the battery that it is just 2800 mAh. It won’t the work the whole day. The battery life is 14 hours in optimal conditions. No one likes to roam around with a charger and always searching for a charging slot. The company has put fast charging and introduced the phone to wireless charging but in order to keep it in the budget it cut short the battery life. It’s a pretty risky gamble that Google has played by adding new technology and cut short the basic necessity and will have to face some backlash on it.
