They say religion is the opium of the masses. But in the modern day, this adage should be changed to replace religion with social media. In the era of trolls and memes, the modern generation, which was supposed to make things better, seems to be losing the plot. How else would you explain desperate attempts to look for trash on the internet by people just to make fun of it? For example, Dhinchak Pooja. The latest addition to this is Omprakash Mishra AKA Rap King of the ‘Bol Na Aunty Aau Kya’ fame.
Now before I say anything else, let me share some lyrics from this “song” with you.
“auntie dekh tune ye hadh kar rakhi hai
aare gare ka tu leti no meinu kehti hai”
“daru pe soda sode pe daru auntie ka figure hai fadu
auntie ka ye game bajana 12 `o` 12`o` clock ko aana”
“mere to ye rape sari duniya bajenge,
har galiyo me dekh mere fan banege
kudiye dimag me baat ek chayegi,
rap ke rape ke ye baap ki ye rani kab ayegi”
And these are still the “better” lyrics from this so called track. Now maybe I am ignorant but could someone please explain to me how a song that is basically glorifying rape culture and misogyny is funny to you? At one end, when a Nirbhaya gets raped, you go to landmarks in your city to protest and take out candle marches. On the other, you want to go out on the streets and shout “Bol Na Aunty Aau Kya”?!
Am I the only one who sees how F-ed up that is? Oh wait, I am actually not. There are other people like me who chose to speak out against it and asked sane people to report the video. However, as soon as it got taken down, a reporter from a media agency who was at the helm of it started getting rape threats! And that is not all, this so called “artist” of this garbage wanted his “followers” to report the media agency’s Facebook page. Soon, an event also came up that wanted people to gather and shout “Bol Na Aunty Aau Kya” outside the said agency’s office! And of course, it was all garnished with the usual comments on their page like, “Feminism se dimaag khrab ho gya hai inka”, “they don’t know how much this song means to us.”
Really, a song that validates raping someone, that negates consent, shames a girl for the clothing and dating choices “means” something to someone? And then people are calling it their right to freedom of speech and expression?
No, this is not your right to freedom of speech. This is plain and simple abuse of that right. The only right you are practicing here is the right to be stupid and a hypocrite, which honestly, no one should have to use, EVER.
