Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana turns 1: why I still love it

Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana

Some movies leave an indelible mark on our minds, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is one such movie, in my opinion. Starring Rajkummar Rao as an IAS Officer and Kriti Kharbanda as a PCS Officer, the movie was directed by Ratnaa Sinha. Being released in November 2017, the movie has turned one, and I just can’t help but feel a little nostalgic about the same.

There are many reasons why I love it. In no particular order I list the top 5:

  1. It stars Rajkumar Rao

Well, duh. The current heartthrob of Bollywood, Rajkumar Rao stars in this movie. In my personal opinion, this is one of his finest performances, and you can quote me on that. Rajkumar Rao is extremely convincing as an IAS officer with a broken heart.

2. The storyline

Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana

The narrative of the story is real. Almost every other Indian woman lives under the constant fear for her career. When she is about to get married, one of the many thoughts that shroud her mind are- whether her in-laws would accept her career or not. Kriti Kharbanda portrays the dilemma perfectly. The whole premise of this movie is based on this one little nagging thought.

3. The acting performances

Rajkumar aside, every other actor in this movie has played his/her character quite well. There are some impressive performances from Kriti Kharbanda and the rest of the star cast. One other actor that I really loved in this movie was Nayani Dixit who plays Kriti’s sister in the movie. Despite being a supporting character, she makes it seem too real and believable that I connect with her as a person.

4. The Climax

Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana

If you have watched the movie, you know what I am talking about. If you haven’t watched Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, you should right now. Why you might ask. So that you can experience the same thing I did. The climax of the film is top notch, just when you think it has become a predictable story, the climax totally blows your mind, and leaves a huge grin on your face.

5. The music

I really love the soundtrack of the movie. The music goes well with the overall feel of the movie. While there are my many good songs in the movie, my all time fav would be Jogi by Yasser Desai & Aakanksha Sharma. With a mixture of delightful music and mesmerising lyrics, the video is a perfect representation of what a romantic song should be, and the 75 million viewers agree. It is not over the top but rather very pleasing. There are some other tracks by Arijit Singh and Shafqat Amanat Ali that I believe one would really like and enjoy listening to over and over again.

Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana

So here are my 5 reasons why I love Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana. I think these are the kind of movies that really speak to any ordinary person and portray the real issues and problems faced by a person in today’s life. I liked how the professional life of an Indian woman was presented in this movie.  Have you watched this movie yet? How did you feel about the movie? Do you agree with what I had to say?
