So I recently finished reading Second Chance by Dr. Sandeep Jatwa. The book has a great line of thought to it. It is based on the idea of Karma.
The book’s protagonist, Shekhar, is a millionaire thanks to an empire that his father has built. Sadly, his father now suffers from paralysis and the conversation between the two is almost non-existent. The character of Shekhar has various layers, so you tend to develop a love hate relationship with him throughout the book.
The book opens with Shekhar in his expensive car that he loves to bits. Suddenly, warnings are flashing everywhere courtesy of the City of Justice. The warnings keep repeating that he needs to change or else there will be consequences.
But as egoistic as he is, he keeps on ignoring them all the while wondering that he is going insane. However, soon he meets with an accident…
The book has got a great pace so you don’t feel like it’s slowing down at any point. The writing is on fleek (yes, I did just use that word!) as Shekhar travels to the “other world”- the City of Justice and what he sees makes you cringe as a reader. He gets a “Second Chance” to make things right but not before he faces some consequences of his actions.
The uglier part of his personality is brought forth to the reader with such delicacy that even if you want to hate him, you end up rooting for Shekhar instead.
Nerd alert: I ended up finishing the book in a day, rather 4-5 hours tops. But in my defense, it is a light read and it does keep you hooked.
Perhaps the only drawback is that the editing of the book is a bit shabby with some grammatical mistakes that tend to break your flow. However, the writing is way too powerful to make you look past that!
Rating: 3/5
