Locker Room Suicide, Girls vs Boys…This needs to End!

locker room suicide

Let’s just get straight to the point and address the elephant in the room. While we are busy thrashing the lives out of #notallmen, we are forgetting about the social defamation cases that men face too. I am not speaking from a gender-biased background, but I can’t fail to notice how we go around not giving sight to the plight of the other gender.

After the outburst on the much conspired ‘bois locker room’, it came to me as a surprise that ‘girl’s locker room’ was paid no heed. Even the “locker room suicide” failed to change that. Shockingly though, the contents of both were the same. Both had demeaning conversations about human beings, morphed pictures of the genders, or what we call cyber sexual harassment. Oh well yeah, the only difference was, one targeted girls, and the other boys!

Again, I am not in favor of any of the above-mentioned happening. But I surely want to bring to light the social defaming boys face which is never even talked about. I am a girl of an age smart enough to understand when something needs to be acted upon. Some fellow girls discuss their partners, or friends in their groups and trust me their conversations are no better.

Where it Began

Let’s go back from where this conversation started- ‘The Bois Locker Room’. When those chats were revealed, people started shaming every other guy out there. And the sympathies for the girls involved in the same reached heights. But when the same girls got their chats leaked- to be specific ‘The Girls Locker Room’ chats leaked, they were supported by calling out ‘EQUALITY’. When did the parameters of equality stoop so low? How come if boys do such a thing, it’s harassment and the same is empowerment for women?

People have weird ways of defining ‘women empowerment‘. Recently, I heard someone preaching that a lady is empowered when she can put a guy in his place. Why? So that he could never talk loud to her again! And I was left agape. Women empowerment is about giving women the same rights as men. So that both the genders could walk hand in hand. It’s infuriating how some people use it as a means of abusing and harassing the other gender. Be it social defaming, or the reel world, there is no end to it.

Bois Locker Room Suicide

The recent suicide of the 17-year-old Manav has bought this question on the table. Did he even deserve it? Why after two years of the incident (considering it even happened) she decided to call out the name but without any proofs? The endless shaming and hate put the innocent one at the edge of life. He found it better to jump off a building and kill himself than to live with it. He killed himself, but we are all equally responsible.

Responsible for being so insensitive to the male gender that we forget that they are humans too, and not every one of them is a culprit. Someone said it right, ‘It was a boy so it was left unheard, had it been a girl, people would be out on the road with candles’.

Real men (don’t) CRY

From the hundreds who were convicted under #metoo without any proof to all those strugglers who lost their integrity for the dream of being successful, the only thing heard was ‘real men don’t cry’. Tell me WHY? Why is it not okay for a man to cry? Is he not a human with emotions? Or your ego would be in shambles if the guy started crying…would it make him less of a man?

I guess it’s finally time that we accept that even men are not safe here. And if we are trying so hard to give women a better place to live, we should do it for the male gender too.
